Key Takeaways

  • For Better Bonuses: Both Uber Eats and Grubhub offer unique bonus types, such as quests or peak time incentives.

Uber Eats vs Grubhub: Key Differences

Depending on which delivery app you choose to work for, there are many factors to consider before making your first leap. While Grunhub may be a delivery app similar to Uber Eats, there are a few things to note before you apply for them. I have organized the major key differences between Uber Eats and Grubhub and how they really differ from each other. Turns out, they are rather similar, with a few key differences.

FactorUber EatsGrubhub
Earnings PotentialHigh (Surge pricing and incentives)More stable with lower earnings
Hourly Pay (Estimate)$15-$25$15-$22
Income StabilityVaries (best during peak hours)More predictable
Tips100% to driver100% to driver
BonusesSurge pricing, questsMission bonuses, peak pay

Overall, Uber Eats offers a higher earning potential, however Grubhub ensures a more stable income but with lower earning potential.

Earnings Using Uber Eats ($15-$25)

Depending on the city, Uber Eats pays more or less. However according to multiple drivers, the average is usually around $15 to $25 per hour, give or take on peak delivery hours. I also noticed that earnings also depend on the distance, time travelled, and pickup/dropoff fees.

Uber Eats driver delivering an order

I really think Uber Eats is worth it during the peak hours, as they usually give better bonuses and extra cash to supplement for the high demand. They also provide quests to incentive the driver to complete more deliveries for higher rewards. Which reminds me of how Freecash also uses quests to help you earn higher rewards, except you just need to sit on your couch, not deliver fast food.

Advantages
Disadvantages
Flexible Scheduling
Inconsistent pay with no knowing if there will be no deliveries all day or not
High-earning potential
Your location could be a bad spot, meaning you lose time and money
Consistent Incentives
Time of peak can be inconsistent if there are special events happening
A variety of orders no matter where you live

Earnings Using Grubhub ($15-$22)

Similar to Uber Eats, Grubhub is a rather poopular food delivery company in the US, owning about 36% of delivery requests give or take on location. Your base pay could be determined by how far you are willing to drive, gas prices, and wher eyou live. For example in New York Grubhub pays closer to $22 an hour, with extremely active delivery requests no matter the time of day. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma City, you will only see a small surge of deliveries closer to early mornings, lunch, and a small peak of maybe an hour during dinner.

Driver Delivering Grubhub

I do however enjoy the Grubhub bonuses and incentives, they offer two types:

  • Mission Bonuses: Extra pay for completing a set number of deliveries
  • Peak Pay: Additional earnings during busy hours

Just like Uber Eats, Grubhub provides 100% tips to all of their drivers, so you could potentially earn great non-deducted tips added to each delivery.

Advantages
Disadvantages
Predictable Earnings
Lower Pay
Structured Bonuses
Less frequent surge pricing
Consistent routines and peaks (based on location)
Slightly less popular than Uber Eats

Which Delivery App is Better to Work For?

Depending on location, I really think you could benefit from both for different reasons. If it was me I would work for both, since they are both independent contracts with no direct obligation to one or the other.

Overall, I would choose Uber Eats if you want higher pay potential with better surge pricing. But I would choose Grubhub if you prefer structured bonuses and more predictable earnings.

Don't want to do either? Try to compare Uber Eats with DoorDash and see if maybe DoorDash is more worth it to you than any other option. Otherwise, feel free to also earn money by playing games on Freecash and cashout on PayPal, Stake or get free gift cards.
