You can find out how to get started below.
1. Join gas reward programs
The most straightforward way to get free gas is by joining a gas reward program. These programs have been created by almost all major gas companies, and reward you with fuel when you save up enough points.
They provide various benefits, but the best gas reward program is ultimately going to be based on whichever gas station is closest to you. And remember, you can sign up for multiple gas reward programs.
We suggest joining all reward programs for the gas stations you regularly visit. And remember to stay disciplined about using the app or card whenever you make a purchase.
First steps...
Find all the gas reward programs for gas stations near you.
Sign up online or via their app.
Link your rewards account to your credit/debit card for easy savings.
2. Turn your car into an advertisement billboard
This was one of my favorite methods for getting free gas, as I actually ended up earning a lot more money than I expected (about $300/month).
Of course, some of you might be embarrassed about having your car wrapped for an advert, but I promise you will get over this. Sure, people will look, but let them; you're the one earning money for nothing every month.
Fill in your details and wait to get offers from advertisers.
Drive as usual while earning passive income.
3. Complete surveys for gas money
Another great way to get free gas is by completing surveys for money and using this extra income to cover your fuel expenditures each month.

It’s effectively paid market research, and you can start today, for free, and all from your phone. By investing a few hours here and there when you have time, you should be able to cover your gas costs each month.
First steps...
Sign up to trustworthy reward platforms.
Register and start completing surveys for points.
Redeem earned points and buy gas.
5. Test apps for gas money
This is another method for getting free gas that only requires a smartphone and a few extra hours each month. As long as you find a trustworthy reward platform to use, you can earn decent cash that can be spent on gas.
What I liked about this method was that it gave me a way to monetize time I would otherwise have spent doomscrolling; in the bathroom, waiting for a train, before bed, and so on.
You can save hundreds of dollars on gas each year by adjusting your driving habits and using your fuel more efficiently. The key is to stay at steady speed, and ideally in a high gear if you drive stick.
Top tips for driving efficiently:
Maintain a steady speed and avoid rapid acceleration or hard braking.
Drive at optimal speeds (45-65 mph for most vehicles) for better fuel efficiency.
Keep your vehicle well-maintained, including tire pressure, air filters, and oil changes.
Reduce weight by removing heavy items and unused roof racks.
7. Participate in free gas competitions
Plenty of gas stations regularly roll out contests and promos that offer free gas as the prize (often just a tank, but sometimes a ‘lifetime supply’). Keep your eyes peeled for these golden ticket opportunities, as they can end up saving you hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on gas.
To find these promos and contests, our best advice is simply to stay in the loop by following major suppliers like Exxon and BP on social media, subscribe to email updates, and regularly scan the local ads.
First steps...
Search online for local or national free gas contests.
Follow gas station social media pages for promotions.
Enter contests by following their instructions.
8. Watch videos for gas money
Did you know you can get paid to watch videos? Not many people do, but it's a great way to earn a little income while cooking and doing chores. You don't get paid much per video, but you can earn decent cash each month if you put a little time in each day.
This is a super simple tip, but it helped me a lot. Every year, I would get gift cards for shops I barely went to or didn't need things from. Nowadays, when friends and family ask what I want for Christmas, I simply let them know I would rather have gas cards.
Some of them still forget (of course), but even if they give me another type of gift card, I will trade it online for a prepaid gas card.
First steps...
Let friends and family know you’d prefer gas cards as gifts.
Use platforms like CardCash to trade unwanted gift cards for gas cards.
10. Earn gas money through referrals
You might not have noticed, but a huge amount of shops and services have great referral programs. And these work very simply; You will be given a link, which you share with others, and when they use that link to sign up to a service or buy a product, you get a small amount.
Gas stipends provide a way for employers to pay their employees for their travel expenses. In most situations, employers who offer this will pay a few cents per mile driven for the first 10,000 miles, and then a little less for each mile over 10,000.
The amount you will get paid per mile varies massively depending on employer, and many employers sadly do not offer any kind of gas stipends. But it never hurts to ask.
First steps...
Send a professional email to your employer asking about the possibility of a gas stipend.
12. Carpool to save on gas
This is especially relevant to anyone who has a set, regular commute. If you take the same journey to work or to your children's school each day, consider asking colleagues or other parents whether they want to carpool.
And remember, you can approach everyone who lives nearby, not only those who drive. By offering lifts to people who not have a car in exchange for a contribution to gas, you will still be saving money.
First steps...
Ask co-workers and fellow parents if any of them live near you and would be interested in carpooling.
Co-ordinate schedules and begin carpooling.
For longer journeys, try apps like BlaBlaCar to find carpool partners.
13. Play games that pay for gas money
A fairly recent development in the world of mobile gaming is the idea of pay-to-play games. These are games that publishers will pay you to play, normally rewarding you with a small amount of money for completing tasks like getting to a specified level or defeating a certain enemy.
Publishers pay users to play these games in the hope that they stay and become long-term members of the community. And who knows, you may indeed find a game you keep playing long-term. But the important thing is that you can use pay-to-play games to make free gas money.
First steps...
Download reward platform apps, which act as alternative app stores, and show you currently available pay-to-play games.
Build up points by playing games regularly.
Redeem points for gas money.

14. Apply for public assistance programs for struggling families
If you have children, and you are going through a difficult time financially, you may be eligible for short-term assistance via programs like TANF. Whether you will be eligible for benefits, and how much you will receive, will depend on your state.
We suggest checking out the link to the TANF map linked below. Simply click on the state where you currently live, and you will be provided with the corresponding contact details.
Research government websites for transportation aid resources.
15. Help people move for free gas
This is a great side hustle for anyone with a vehicle and a license looking to make more money for gas. Of course, it is easier if you have a larger vehicle, but even if not, it does not hurt to advertise your services.
We recommend using a casual platform like Craigslist. Be honest about your vehicle size and availability, make it clear that you want to be paid directly or that you want a full tank of gas, and you will begin helping people move in no time.
Build a network of clients for regular opportunities.
16. Work as a delivery driver for gas
This is another great side hustle for anyone with a vehicle and a license. You can earn money in your free time, and you will also get a contribution towards your gas, as drivers are paid a small surcharge towards fuel for each order they deliver.
What is especially convenient about this kind of work is that you can work as much or as little as you want, and you can do it when you want. So, if you are already busy in the week, you could simply work a few hours on Sunday afternoons to pay for your gas.
First steps...
Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy; check tires, change oil if necessary, consider buying a dash cam.
Everyone should be using cashback apps, even if you do not drive. These platforms are so simple, and reward you for spending money you would need to spend anyway, usually on groceries.
Simply sign-up for a cashback app, find offers for shops you normally use, and begin earning points. You can then redeem these points for gas cards, and get free gas.
Check participating gas stations for cashback offers.
Pay and upload receipts to earn rewards.
18. Apply for gas vouchers as a low-income individual
We mentioned opportunities for families who are struggling earlier, but there are also ways for low-income individuals to get benefits like free gas as well. It is unfortunately going to be more difficult to apply for these programs without children, but we strongly recommend you try.
First steps...
Contact local charities or churches offering gas assistance.
19. Attend gas station grand openings for free fuel
When new gas stations are built, they very often have grand opening events, many of which include free gas for the first few hundred customers. Although this will only work once per new gas station, it is easy and can even be fun.
In the case of all grand opening events, you should expect to wait a few hours in the queue. But while you wait, you can try some of the other money-making tips suggested earlier, like completing surveys and finding new apps to test for cash.
First steps...
Monitor local news and gas station social media for grand opening events.
Visit the station for the grand opening and follow instructions to claim free gas.
We hope you found those suggestions useful. Enjoy the free gas!
