Shields protect your board from enemy players during the Shutdown minigame. If a Shield is available, and a player tries to attack one of your Landmarks, it will automatically be consumed to block the attack (saving you a ton of money in repairs).
You earn Shields by landing on Tiles that have a blue shield icon, but you can only have five at once. When you are at max, landing on a Tile with the blue shield icon will instead get you more Dice Rolls.
Although earning Shields is easy, earning Shield Skins is more complicated. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect how Shields work, but they look cool. Here is how to get free Shield Skins, from buying them to earning them in-game.
Buy Shield Skins with free Monopoly Go! money
We will start with the paid-for Shield Skins. At the moment, there has only been one Shield Skin that you could buy directly from the shop (the Heroic Red, which was sold as part of the Games for Red campaign, raising money in the fight against AIDS). But I expect over the years more and more Shield Skins will be sold like this.
Here is a tip for the paid-for Skins. Whenever new Shield Skins become available in the store: Earn real money for your in-game progress on Freecash. This is an earning platform where you can make money by completing simple tasks online, like answering surveys and testing new games.
