Work as a Freelancer Part-Time

Freelancing is one of the most successful ways to make money in your 60's to go beyond the minimum wage. If you want to earn money while retired, you need to find something before hand that could help fund your next step in life. Freelancing has a wide range of opportunities that can easily make you from $10 an hour to even $70 an hour depending on your expertise.

You can find gigs for freelance projects on platforms like Upwork or Fiverr. A few of the areas you should have a bit of expertise on would be something like:

  • Journalism/Blog Writing
  • Marketing/Management
  • Design
  • Tutoring
  • Programming

There are plenty of gigs out there for literally everyone, and being in your 60's already puts you ahead of others in terms of experience. You can easily start making over $1,000 a month by finding some solid gigs. Most also only take you an hour or two a day, so you can still relax after a long day at work.

Participate in Reward Programs

Reward programs, like Freecash, offer money for simply answering surveys or testing out research marketing products. If you are into it, you can also play games like solitaire or monopoly on your phone and earn as you play. Its super easy to get started, and our best players are already making up to 514.500 each offer.

You can easily earn up to $50 a day by completing tasks daily, and you can cash out easily using over 21 cashout methods. Freecash is for everyone, even if you are making money in your 40's.

Here is how I got started using the Freecash app on my mobile or tablet device:

  1. 1 Signed up using an email, Google account, or even Facebook account
  2. 2 Completed tasks such as answering surveys and playing games
  3. 3 Cashed out my earnings using PayPal and the Visa gift card option.

There are over 16.428 offers available, making it easy to always come back and earn more. You can even take advantage of Freecash offerwall partners to earn triple the rewards on your favorite surveys or games.

Become a Pet-Sitter

If you don't like to play online games or maybe you are not someone who is into trying out some high paying online gigs at all, there are other ways you can make money that doesn't require much physical effort, but still gets you out of your house. Being a pet-sitter is one of the best alternatives!

Pet-sitting can easily earn you from $10-$16 an hour depending on the length of time for care, duties, and quantity of animals. You can find pet-sitting gigs on websites like Rover or TrustedHouseSitters. All you have to do is sign up and create a decent profile describing who you are, and what services you can provide.

As a pet-sitter, you can spend form 8 hours to literally days either going to the pets house daily, or spending the night at the owners home. It really depends on the task and the pet owneres preferences. Rest assured, you are paid decently, and all you need to do is care for dog and/or cats!

Apply for Gardening Jobs

Gardening jobs are much more physical labor, however, they are praised by older individuals as you keep up with your physical health while not needing to learn an enitrely new skill. Most Gardening jobs pay from $15 to $25 an hour depending on the amount of work requested. You can do anything from planting flowers, digging holes, moving soil, or even mowing.

Since you are in your 60's some of the work may sound like its too much. Which some roles it may be, however there are plenty of gardening roles that dont require you to do too much labor. You just need to find which role description best fits what youre looking for, and apply. You can find a majority of gardening jobs on sites like Indeed.

Key Takeaways

  • Keep in mind: these types of jobs can be either full or part time, and can take up to 4 hours a day minimum.

Rent Out Property

If you have a rather large home, or maybe you have an extra room or a basement that could be renovated into a room, you can easily rent out space on Airbnb. Even if you have extra land that could be used for farming, or boarding animals like horses, cows, or chickens, there are plenty of ways to rent out your property.

If you have extra space in your home, I highly suggest looking into Airbnb. You can rent out a room for people who are travelling and need somewhere to stay. This can sometimes be more convenient than staying at a hotel. Most rooms you can easily request from $80 to $100 per night, depending on the services you provide like free coffee, private bathroom, etc.

If you have land to rent out, most real estate offices will help you finding a renter or borrower of space where they can pay you hundreds per month to use it. Make your own rental terms as a private owner, and easilly make some extra cash using this method.

Take an Online Course

While you don't make money from the course, you can earn a promotion or a raise by simply adding more to your portfolio. Being in your 60's doesn't mean you're out of the race, you can still spend the next few years before retirement making double your income. I know multiple people who have changed their career in the last 10 years before retirement, including my own father.

This being said, taking courses can really making a difference in your 60's, whether you want to learn something new, or sharpen your skills in your current job.

Here are a few places you can find courses for free or for a good price:

The best thing is most of these courses only take a few weeks to complete, so you don't need to go to college for half of your 60's or anything, simply find a good skill to upgrade and let everyone know! Chances are, you will get a promotion or even better job opportunities.

Maximize 401k Contributions

According to Fidelity Investments, any person within their 60's should almost have up to 10x their salary in order to live comfortably by age 67 for retirment. If you are struggling to get to these numbers, a great way to try to battle against it is by maximizing your 401k contributions.

Maybe you are only contributing 5% a month, which according to Fidelity, again, your max contributions should be around 15% . This being said, even if you only have 1 to 7 years left to contribute, its best to start raising that percentage up now. If you do, you will double or even triple your current retirement earnings, where you can earn atleast another year or two worth of salary.

You can do the same for other retirment funds, such as Roth IRAs or regular IRA accounts, however you do have a maximum limit you can contribute to each (Roth IRA is up to $7,000 a year). I have a Roth IRA personally, and I would contribute to both the Roth IRA and my 401k just to quadripple my earning potential. However if you don't have a 401k, I would stick to contributing to the Roth IRA or a long-term investment account where you can earn back a rate of return every year.

Downsize Home and Car Payments

If you don't have space to rent out, or maybe you don't have the ability to work anymore full time, I would highly suggest downsizing your home and/or car. If you already home your home, then don't worry, this isn't for you! Unless you could sell your home for a great price and buy a cheaper house that is comfortable for you (which is a great way to earn an extra $200,000 or so if you can do this).

My mother for example had a small condo on the beach that was costing more than owning an average home that was just a 10 minute walk from the beach. She sold the condo and now earn almost half a million for "downsizing". I honestly think this is a great way to earn extra money in your 60's, and can free up a lot of your spending stresses.

Similarly, you can also downsize your car, a.k.a sell your Range Rover for a a Chevy Cruz. It may not be ideal, but you can save yourself an extra $50,000 or more by doing this.

If you follow all of these tricks to make extra money in your 60's, you are well on your way to living a comfortable, stress free retirement! And maybe, you can even warn your younger friends on how to make extra money in their 50's.
