Boosters make completing match-3 levels far easier in Fishdom, but Diamonds are more versatile, and can be used to buy lives and moves as well.
Predictably, it's far easier to get free Boosters, but there are a few ways to get Diamonds that we'll start with.
How to get free Diamond in Fishdom
Although Diamonds are harder to get for free in Fishdom, you don't need to spend your own cash to get them.
Earn Stars
As you upgrade and beautify your tank, you earn Stars, and for every Star you earn, you get five Diamonds.
This is a good way to make sure you have a steady stream of Diamonds as you progress, but it will provide you with enough Diamonds to really spend.
Get Apple and Google gift cards from Freecash
The quickest way to earn a lot of Diamonds in Fishdom involves using Freecash to earn free Apple and Google Play gift cards, and then using these gift cards to pay for big bundles in the in-game store.
Freecash is a site that will pay you to complete microtasks, like trying new games as a player tester or answering surveys. Complete these tasks, and you can earn enough to afford a big collection in the Fishdom shop.
And when you use those gift cards to buy Diamonds, make sure to get the special daily or weekly offer, which come with a lot of Boosters as well:
You can also sometimes find great bundles during events, so consider saving a few of the gift cards until an event begins.
Buy Unique Fish
A few of the higher-level unique fish, which can be bought from level 19, come with 15 Diamonds. For instance, the Headmistress:

How to get free Boosters in Fishdom
There are several ways to earn Boosters in Fishdom, and for this reason I wouldn't suggest using Diamonds to buy them (even with the Freecash/gift card trick getting you free Diamonds).
Collect your Daily Bonus
Once you reach level 8, you unlock the Daily Bonus. Which means when you first log in each day, you will see a pop-up with nine shells. Press one of the shells, and you will win a random reward.
The rewards are small, and usually contain a Booster and a few coins. But, there is a chance to win event-specific rewards, if you're opening your Bonus during an ongoing event.
Earn Stars
For every Star you earn, you will also earn a Booster. You earn Stars by completing levels and upgrading your tank, so nothing complicated is required here; just play the game.
Participate in events & tournaments
You will often receive Treasure Chests as rewards during events and tournaments. Most of the time, these Treasure Chests contain a bundle of items, including Boosters.
Avoid 'Diamond-generators' and 'Booster-generators'
A final tip, never trust any kind of 'Diamond-generator' or 'Booster-generator'. These are scams designed to prey on Fishdom players.
Unfortunately, generator scams are common across the whole mobile gaming industry. Many of these work by asking you to download a 'generator', which is in fact just a virus.
Just play games to earn the funds instead, don't resort to this nonsense.
