5 Real Ways to Get GTA 6 for Free & Cheap

Key Takeaways

  • Unreliable but 100% free method: Giveaways

  • Guaranteed method that takes time: Freecash

  • Best method for extremely patient people: Xbox Game Pass

Games are getting expensive, and there’s talk that GTA 6’s most basic edition could cost upwards of $100. So, how can we get that number down a bit? While you won’t be able to head to your local CEX or GameStop and get a copy of GTA 6 for free, I’ve put together a few methods that can reduce or eradicate that big dent in your wallet.

Giveaways

Keep your eyes out for content creators, retailers, and other potential providers of giveaways in the months leading up to GTA 6’s release. Companies like Microsoft and Sony regularly host giveaways of their consoles alongside big releases to boost hype, and around a launch like GTA 6 it’s likely we’ll see giveaway bundles that include the game.

These big companies’ giveaways will be the most legit, but also the most contested. For a bigger chance of winning, try going to content creators and influencers, who often host giveaways in return for engagement on social media. Your odds still won’t be great, but the more you enter, the better your chances.

I’d also suggest you watch out for scammers and fake giveaways. A lot of people will use the fact that it’s easy to obfuscate the winner of a giveaway to not actually award the prize. Look for influencers with a good track record of proving their legitimacy.

Pick Up Some Side Hustles

As GTA 6 has been delayed so much, it’s well worth picking up a side hustle or two to make an extra $10 or so a day. Make that amount, and you’ll be at the $100 mark in less than two weeks, and from there you can even add a bit more to get a special edition version of GTA 6.

Sell Old Games

Do you still have a copy of GTA V? It won’t earn you the $100 you’re looking for, but a like-new copy of the game for PS5 will still fetch about £10 on eBay

Now turn your attention to the stack of games you haven’t played in years, and deep down know you never will. They’re next. You can flog them individually if their value is still worth it, but another option is to sell them in a bundle for a much more enticing price, making it less effort for you.

Deliver Food

I wanted to earn a bit of extra video game money a few years ago, and food delivery was a perfect option. I’m a decent cyclist, but it’ll be even easier if you have an e-bike, moped, or car

There are plenty of options for delivery driving apps, but you can feasibly sign up for a few and split your jobs between the likes of Deliveroo and Uber Eats to maximise your orders and earn enough to buy GTA 6 within a few shifts.

User Testing

If you’re less of an active type, you can easily make money from home by participating in user testing. You can take this side hustle nice and casually, too. All you have to do is sign up to a site like UserTesting, Test IO, or Web Usability, and you can work flexibly as much or as little as you want.

The job is quite simple - you look at a website or app, answer questions about its usability (or record a short video clip explaining it), and the sites will pay you an average of $10 a pop for this feedback. A few user testing gigs and you’ll be well on your way to getting that GTA 6 budget boosted.

Earn Money Gaming With Freecash

If you’re already a gamer, this might be the perfect option to save up that $100 you’ll need for GTA 6. You can earn money for playing games, completing surveys, and trying new apps on Freecash. There’s tons of games to choose from, and you can start earning within five minutes.

Whether you put the time in and try to earn quickly through the platform or just gradually earn over time, Freecash is a great way to build those coffers ahead of GTA 6’s release. There are plenty of withdrawal methods too, so you’ll be able to find an easy way to access your cash.

Wait for it to go on Xbox Game Pass

This is the long game. It took years for GTA V to get put on Xbox Game Pass, and I imagine it’ll take even longer for GTA 6 given the hype around the game. When it does, it’s technically ‘free’ if you already subscribe, and you can get Xbox Game Pass for free

I wouldn’t rely on this method if you have an urgent need to play GTA 6 when everyone else does, but if you’re looking to get the game without paying any extra money, Game Pass or PS Plus will be the way to go.

Share the Cost

If you live with friends and family, it might be worth splitting the $100+ cost of GTA 6 with them. I might be relying on this method. $100 between four people cuts the cost down to just $25 each - a much more reasonable amount.

It does of course mean you won’t have access to the game at all times, so avoid this if you anticipate “mum says it’s my turn on the Xbox”-style fights. It’d be perfect if you and your housemates have schedules that don’t require your leisure time (or GTA time) to overlap.
