Key Takeaways

  • Most fun micro job site: Freecash

  • Highest paid micro job site: Toptal

  • Easiest micro jobs site: Clickworker

There are tons of ways to earn money from home, but you have to find the right place to secure that work. Thankfully, plenty of sites offer the opportunity to make extra money from home.

Whether you want to complete mini tasks for mini payments or do skilled work as a micro freelancer, one of these sites will give you what you’re looking for.

Fiverr

Fiverr is a micro job site that allows you to work from home and earn money in a variety of categories. Whether you’re a writer or translator, a composer or programmer, Fiverr offers a huge variety of options. Check to see if your skillset is represented, and it’s super easy to become a seller.

It’s a popular platform, so you’ll be able to find a lot of potential clients searching there. The potential issue you’ll find is the sheer amount of competition - you might end up having to undercharge somewhat to build a reputation on the platform. There’s also a pretty steep fee charged for every transaction - 20% of the money is taken by Fiverr each time.

Upwork

Upwork is often compared to Fiverr as a slightly more upmarket alternative. Similar services can be sold, but Upwork requires skills verification tests to be taken, leading to an overall higher quality and reliability of freelancer.

If you fancy yourself a level above rival freelancers on Fiverr, Upwork might just be perfect for you! You’ll have access to higher-value clients, and potentially the ability to form longer-term relationships with them.

Of course, this has its own downside - Upwork is far from an easy way to make money from home. It’s more appropriate for those who wish to spend a bit more time perfecting their craft, rather than folks looking for a quick buck.

Freecash

Freecash is a micro job site in every sense of the word. You can play video games and get paid for it, as well as complete other tasks like surveys.

It’s incredibly easy to sign up in just 5 minutes, and you get a $5 bonus just for joining the platform. From there, you get to download mobile games and earn enormous rewards by progressing and continuing to play.

There’s a great deal of scope to earn a solid amount through Freecash, but some offers do require you to pay into the games themselves. Luckily, cashback options are frequently available from Freecash, so you’ll often just get the money back anyway!

Clickworker

At Clickworker, you’re able to work from anywhere in the world without any experience, completing microtasks flexibly and easily.

Tasks range from AI training and voice recording to surveys and photo submission. It’s all very small-time, so you can jump in and do some tasks when you have a few minutes to spare without worrying about having to meet a certain quota or deadline.

Of course, with a micro job site like this, you might find the pay rates lower than you’d desire. There’s a world of difference between the work you’re doing here and freelance jobs on the likes of Fiverr or Upwork, and the tasks can be inconsistent in how regularly they come in.

Toptal

This is a bit of a fancier micro job site. Toptal markets itself as having the top 3% of freelance talent, and this means it’s better-paid and has less competition. Of course, you’d have to actually get into the upper echelons of your field to start making money from home on Toptal, but the if you can get through the challenging vetting process, it’s well worth being here.

Used by the likes of HP, Shopify, and Kraft Heinz, Toptal can open up a lot of longer-term jobs that start micro, but don’t expect miracles unless you’ve got some great experience in relevant fields like marketing, software development, or project management.

Amazon Mechanical Turk

At MTurk, you can hop online and easily make money in a similar fashion to Clickworker. It’s fast to join and start earning money through jobs like surveys and data entry, which can be completed quickly and easily.

The pay rates are low, though, and unlike Freecash, the work isn’t exactly as fun as playing a video game. There are also limited payout options, particularly outside of the US, with only USD and Amazon vouchers available.

Hubstaff Talent

Hubstaff Talent is a remote-focused site that falls somewhere in between the micro-task and fully-fledged freelancer extremes. You can browse jobs and apply quickly, particularly in marketing and software development, with pay rates clearly displayed.

You won’t make quite as much money as the likes of Fiverr, but it’s also a lot more accessible and doesn’t require a lot of extra work on your end to get noticed. Check the site out and see if you have relevant qualifications for the work being offered!

Freelancer

Freelancer is a massive platform with countless micro jobs to complete across a ton of categories. There’s loads of work from home to be found, from simple data entry to mobile app design and development, and it’s quick to find through the platform.

One thing I’ve noticed when using Freelancer is the quality of listing, though. Not every job recommended is relevant to the skillset specified, and spammy micro jobs are commonplace. It’s also just absolutely huge, which could be overwhelming for a beginner just looking for a quick bit of money from home.
