How To Play CS:GO After The Release of CS2

With the release of CS2, Valve has completely removed CS:GO from the Steam store, and many players did not have the chance to "say goodbye" to a game that they have been playing for many years. Fortunately, there is a legit method to play CS:GO even now. Even though CS:GO is no longer on the Steam store, it’s still on Steam as a legacy version. So if you would like to keep playing CS:GO even after the release of CS2, this article will show you how you can do that, so make sure to stick around.

Step-By-Step Guide on How To Access CS:GO From Steam

Accessing CS:GO is quite straightforward and only takes a few steps. The only prerequisite is that you need to have CS2 in your Steam library. It does not have to be downloaded, but it must be listed in the games that you own. Here is how to play CS:GO in a few simple steps:

  1. Select the CS2 in your Steam library and right-click it.
  2. Select “Properties”, and then click on “Betas”
    CS:GO Legacy Version
  3. From the list of available Betas, select “Legacy CS:GO Version”, after which you’ll receive a download of 12 GB in size.
  4. From now on, every time you start CS2 you will receive a prompt to choose between CS2 and CS:GO.

It’s unknown for how long will CS:GO be available, all that is known is that CS:GO will lose support from Valve in 2024. Since there are CS:GO tournaments still happening, it is likely that Valve will keep CS:GO for some time at least.

Which Game Modes are Available in CS:GO?

Unfortunately, the only game modes available in Legacy CS:GO are workshop maps, which means you’ll only be able to play with bots. This means you won’t be able to access community servers and official competitive matchmaking modes. However, you can also manually type the specific IP address of the server that is still running, if you wish to join it.

Do You Need to Download CS2 to play CS:GO?

Technically speaking, no, and all you need to do is add CS2 to your Steam library. To do this, simply start the download from the Steam page and pause it. Then, the CS2 icon will appear in your library, after which you can complete the necessary steps to access CS:GO.
