Lots of players wish to unlock their frame rates to the greatest extent to run CS:GO perfectly. But that isn’t the case with others, as capping the FPS can help you hold a steady gameplay look. In some PCs, uncapped FPS means that one time the gameplay can look fast, and another time it can drop and look really slow. If you’re having that issue, or want to lock your frame rate, then here we’ll see how to cap FPS CSGO!

Cap CS:GO FPS in Steam Client

The first way you can cap your FPS in CS:GO is through the Launch options from the Steam client. This will basically lock the frames in motion the moment you open up the game as it’ll place the cap right at launch. So here’s how you can cap your CS:GO FPS from the Launch options through the Steam client:

  1. Open up the Steam Client
  2. Click on the Steam Library section above
  3. Locate Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the left tab full of games
  4. Right-click CS:GO and select Properties
  5. Enter the next command in the “Launch Options”  text field: “+fps_max {DESIRED FPS} +cl_show 1”
  6. Close the Steam client, start playing CSGO, and see if the FPS cap is enabled

There are 2 commands here in play, and the “+fps_max” is what defines the maximum FPS your game will reach. If you type in 60 as the desired FPS, then the 60 FPS will be the maximum CS:GO would reach. Another thing you can do with this command in the Launch options is to set it to “+fps_max 0”. That fully removes the FPS limit, guaranteeing you smoother gameplay

The “+cl_showfps 1” command will tell you the current gameplay FPS you have on the top left side of your screen. This will help you to see if you’ve successfully managed to place the FPS cap within the Steam Launch options.

Cap CS:GO FPS in Game Console

Another way you can cap the CS:GO FPS is through the in-game console. Firstly, you’ll have to enable the console to be able to limit the frame rate. So here’s how you can enable the CS:GO console:

  1. Open CS:GO and head to Settings
  2. Select the Game section above
  3. Locate the “Enable Developer Console ~” option and set it to “Yes”

Now to open the Developer console, you’ll have to click on the “~” button on your keyboard. Then there are 2 commands which you can go with to limit the FPS:

  • fps_max {DESIRED FPS}
  • fps_max _menu {DESIRED FPS}

Enter the desired FPS after you’ve typed the command. However, the interesting thing here is that you can separately cap the in-game and the menu FPS however you wish. The first “fps_max” command will cap the max FPS of the whole game, while the “fps_max_menu” command will limit the current frame rate of the menu only.
